Mr & Mrs Reed were delayed for 3.5 hours with Virgin Atlantic and received €600 compensation!
My husband and I had driven the six-hour trip from Cornwall the night before, our flight to Jamaica was leaving from Gatwick to Montego Bay at 10 AM the following morning. We did not want to miss it so thought it would be best to stay in an airport hotel the night before.
At 7 the following morning we got an email from Virgin to say our flight was going to be delayed and was now scheduled to depart at 4PM. We were given no reason for the delay, we just had to hang around at the hotel for the day until it was time to head to Gatwick.
The flight did leave at 4PM as planned, there were no further delays. The shame was that we were supposed to be in our hotel in Jamaica celebrating a friends 50th birthday that evening, which we missed completely. We didn’t get tour hotel until 10.30 in the evening when we should have got there at 4.30 in the afternoon.
We went on to have fantastic holiday, our friend decided to have another birthday meal later in the week so we did not miss out. So although the delay was annoying at the time we sort of forgot about it quite quickly.
A friend at work told me about claiming for flight delay compensation, she had recently claimed for a delayed flight herself. A few weeks later an Air Delay advert popped up on Facebook so I thought I had nothing to lose and it would be worth giving it a try!
Alex from Air Delay was very helpful he dealt with it all for us, just a few weeks later we received our flight delay compensation of around £175 each. It was a lovely surprise, our delay only caused us to miss a friend's birthday meal and 6 hours of our holiday but we still got compensated.
