Mr Rayiru was delayed for 18 hours with Thomson Airways and received €2400 compensation!
Myself and 3 others were travelling back with Thomson from Vallarta to Gatwick, returning from a holiday back in July 2014. We got to the airport, checked in, passed through security and got to the departure gate.
We were actually queuing up ready to board the plane when there was an announcement that the flight would be delayed due to a technical problem. We were told to sit back down for the time being until they had further any further information for us.
Eventually Thomson announced that we would have to spend the night in a hotel, but first we had to go by bus, to another part of the airport to collect our luggage off a carousel as it had to be taken back off the plane.
The captain actually made a joke that he was going to miss a dinner appointment, we ended up with an 18 and a half hour delay!! It turned out that there was a problem with some screws in the wings! At one point while we were waiting for information, staff from an airport shop came out and offered us bottles of water, we thought they were complimentary but they actually charged us for them!
Once we had collected our luggage we were taken by bus to a nearby hotel, got there at 2 in the morning. There were some sandwiches and drinks laid on for us, but it was late and we were very tired. We were collected at 8.30 the following morning to finally start the journey home, so we were at the hotel for a total of six and a half hours.
I had seen on the news about being able to claim flight delay compensation. I wrote to Thomson, trying to claim myself, but got a letter back from them saying the delay was due to a technical fault and I was therefore not entitled to any compensation.
I left it at that …until a couple of years later when I was looking for another holiday online when an Air Delay advert popped up. I clicked on the link and submitted claims for all 4 travelers in minutes. I received regular email updates about the status of our claim. Just over two months later all four of us were awarded £350 each!!
The compensation will go a long way towards another holiday. We received great service from Air Delay, I would definitely recommend them to anyone who has experienced a flight delay, even if it was a few years ago.
