Mr Myers was delayed for 4 hours with Monarch and received €800 compensation!

My wife and I were travelling back with Monarch, from Malaga to Manchester, back in May 2014. Our flight was due to take off at 8PM but at check in we were told it was delayed. They did warn us it would be a long delay and had been caused by technical problems. We were given a €10 voucher so we could get a drink and a sandwich. The €10 only just bought us a drink each! We received no further updates about the new flight time, just had to keep checking the departures board.

The delay ended up being over four hours long, we finally took off shortly after midnight. We had a funeral to attend the following morning, which sadly we missed.

I did try to claim from Monarch myself, shortly after our return back in 2014. They wanted our boarding passes sending in and I forget what else they said they needed, but it would have been a lot of hassle and I gave up.

The next time I thought about claiming flight delay compensation was while watching a TV travel program, two years later. I realised we really were entitled to compensation. I did a search online and found Air Delay, the website looked so simple to use, certainly a lot easier than getting together all the items that Monarch had initially requested. It looked so easy, I thought I would give it a try. I just keyed in our flight information then received regular email updates about our compensation claim.

Funnily enough about 2-3 months later I said to the wife “I wonder if we will hear anything about the delay compensation” the very next day 2 cheques arrived in the post. We had been awarded €400 each!

We were delighted. We go to Spain 3-4 times a year so that was our next lot of flights paid for!
